West TN floats
We have a bunch of different waterways close to us to float and relax or to fish. The Wolf River system, Hatchie, and Loosahatchie being the 3 closest to Memphis, but the Duck and Buffalo rivers on the edge of West TN are only 2 hours from Memphis as well. There are numerous watersheds and TWRA lakes as well as resevoirs to explore as well. There are tons of backwaters to Ky Lake and Pickwick as well as smaller creeks all over this part of the state. We will explore a couple on this page but just check some of the resources we list and use Google Earth or the many other places available on the web to find something close to you!

Wolf River in southwest tn
Frankly, this is one of my favorites because it is just hard to believe how close to town these backwaters are. The Wolf River Conservancy has done a great job of protecting and helping to preserve these waters. Most folks in Memphis think of the downstream urban part of the river but the upstream section are absolutely gorgeous and pristine.
The most concise website for information on the Wolf is the conservancys site. wolfriver.org
This linked site above takes you directly to their paddling site where you can get access points as well as river gauge links and best times to float and where not to float. This waterway is gorgeous and is generally considered a class 1 river but can be dangerous during high water. Planning is the key to any good float and I hope to help by giving you some good information and what to look for as we go forward.

THe Ghost river section
Lagrange to Bateman known as the Ghost River section is my favorite float due to the outstanding fishing provided in that section of the river but you definitely need to allow all day as the float is 8.5 miles and takes about 6 hours so to fish you need to allow 3-4 hours extra. Start early and allow time to get to bridge at the end of your day and you will be rewarded not only with beautiful scenery but some oustanding fishing as well.

Always wear a life jacket! No excuses but it was hot and I was in 12" of water.
